Anyone who has set foot outside their home lately knows just how hot it’s been. Some 120 million people in the U.S. under heat advisory alerts from the National Weather Service in the last week, and the number of deaths are rising. Can we finally talk about climate change as the killer that it is? Or are we going to follow a certain state’s lead and just erase the words from the statutes, so we can go on pretending it’s not happening? Rhetorical question. I hope.

In the Works: I’ve been working on the new book, “I’m Mad At God,” which has become my outlet for venting all my frustration with our lack of progress on the dire environmental fronts. Writing this book has been both a welcome opportunity to vent pent-up fury and also giving me more reasons to be mad. Kind of like how sweeping the kitchen floor is just asking for new spills to happen.

Will you help? I’m stuck on the ending for a particular chapter I’ve called: “Environ-Mental: Earth Needs a Better Brand.” I’ve included a selection from the DRAFT (it’s very much unfinished) below, but the premise is this: our eco-friendly messaging sucks. We make it sound like caring for Earth is dreary and dour, all about scrimping and self-sacrificing. And we demand everyone else give up the good things in life, too, so we can all be dreary and dour together. No wonder our message doesn’t sell!

What’s a better way to present our case? Because all the warnings of misery are falling on deaf ears. Or we’re all just too hot to think. What could a more positive message be?Let me know.
